Courchevel bar guide

As you’d expect in such a world-class resort as Courchevel there are a host après ski venues available. From dusk till dawn, even the most hardened party animal will not be disappointed with the entertainment on offer.

Le Pizzaria, Le Praz
Large and friendly french run bar and restaurant popoular with all Le Praz chalet staff. Offers a range of English style bar snacks and pizzas. Large range of beers, shooters and of course The Mutzig. Regular bands Tuesday & Friday and other events entertainment. Now with free Wi-Fi access.

Le Darbeilo, Le Praz
Now owned by the boys from the L'escorchevel (pizzaria to the locals). This was formerly an intimate French family owned bar and restaurant serving quality food in a traditional savoyard setting. Very popular so it's necessary to book in advance particularily on Wednesdays. Regular musical entertainment usually provided by resort staff. It remains to be seen what will become of this hostelry under the new ownership although Pierro & Olivier assure us that it will remain fundamentally the same operation.

The Pub Ski Lodge, La Tania
Awarded 'Best Resort Bar' in 2004. Pub Le Ski Lodge is the main bar and social centre of life in La Tania. Now with free wi-fi access, (no purchase required). Drinks include draught Tarentaise Bitter, Murphys, Strongbow, Heineken and Amstel. Try the evil Absenthe, Genipi and Chartreuse for a quick hit and don't forget the infamous Ski Lodge Cocktail (ask the staff for details). Decent prices, good food and big party nights make this a place you'll spend a lot of time in. Be there on a Tuesday for the biggest night of the week (it's chalet girls day off tomorrow) when bands such as Shibboleth, Four Play, Your Mum, 2MJ or Mowgli perform to a rowdy crowd. All the live sports events are on satellite TV including Premiership Plus. Now with a exterior heated terrace. www.publeskilodge.com

La Taiga, La Tania
Owned by Tim, the same guy as blows his french horn badly on the heated terrace of Pub Ski Lodge, this however is a much more upmarket establishment than it's boisterous sister. Highly recommended and increasingly popular French restaurant upstairs with a relaxed bar below. Quality leather sofa seating and open log fire. Unexpectedly the bar has maintained very competitive prices very much on a par with other less refined drinking places. Lunchtime BBQs on the terrace have become a regular feature.

Hotel Telemark, La Tania
New in the 2004/5 season and undergoing further devlopment for season 05/06. Bar and Bistro Restaurant situated in the forest next to the chalets overlooking La Tania. www.hoteltelemark.com

Le Farcon (Pub L'Arbatt) , La Tania
Pinball and pool. Escape space from the Ski Lodge just opposite.

Bubble Bar 1650
Le Bubble Bar has firmly established itself as the meeting place in Courchevel 1650. It's right in the centre of the village and you can ski to the door most of the season. The décor, the service and the atmosphere are all special at Le Bubble where fast internet access, comfy sofas and snacks are available all day long. Every day from 16.00 to 18.00 there's the famed "Double Bubble Happy Hours", accompanied by live music at least twice a week to add some extra zest to your après ski celebrations. On whiteout days there are English films as well as the usual full Satellite TV service. Le Bubble offers everything including breakfast from 8 o'clock through to cocktails after midnight. www.lebubble.com

New Space Pub 1650
If you are looking for a great bar and a wild night out, look no further than the New Space Bar, located towards the end of the main road that runs through Courchevel 1650, on the way to 1850. Open from 16h until 01h00 every day, here the emphasis is definitely on Fun with a capital "F". As a Café Concert, you will often find live bands playing to a packed and rocking house. No excuses for not having a good time, whether watching a video, sipping a cocktail or bopping to the band.

The Bar 1550
The Bar in Courchevel 1550 -the old Cactus bar- is now under new British management and is the base of Pleisure Snowboarding Holidays. Refurbished to create one of the coolest, most chilled out place in Courchevel, with the cheapest beer prices in town. Satellite TV, Internet access, and PS2, have all been installed for your enjoyment. On the decks, their Resident DJ mixes 70’s to Hip Hop to danceable beats. If that’s not enough, try their extensive range of flavoured vodkas from the sweet shop.

Le Barouf 1550
This bar was a great addition to the choice of après ski and night time venues in 1550. Situated right by the Grangettes bubble, the new owners, Philippe and Jeanot, invite you to come and make the most of your holiday play time. The traditional style wooden décor creates a warm and cosy ambiance that is enhanced by the good choice of music : Rock, Blues, Latino sounds, live music and themed party nights are all part of the entertainment throughout the season. Don’t worry if late nights are not always your cup of tea, the après ski menu is also enticing. Relax with a vin chaud, and watch the latest sporting events and matches on the large screen, whilst regaling each other with talks of your exploits on the pistes. The Barouf is open every day from 2pm until 1am.

TJ’s 1850
Definitely one for the Brits, run by the Brits. Shooters, Tequila Slammers, Flavoured Vodkas shots, everything you should need to get in the party spirit.

Piggy’s 1850
A very chic cocktail and wine bar. Leather sofas, flowing champagne, good music, and beautiful people (well some of them). A good place to get in the holiday mood. Caution required however as this bar can be very expensive (eg: half pint Guinness 6euros)

Gringos 1850
Very much a resort workers bar. Tequila and Mutzig. Cheap prices and lots of chalet staff.

Rocky's 1650

An English style bar with pints and football.

The Signal 1650 - (The Schuzz Bar)
The bar that introduced Mutzig Old Strong Lager to Courchevel. The bar has recently changed ownership and has recently undergone a major refurbishment, however the views across the Bozel valley toward the direction of Meribel and Val Thorens remain stunning.

LATE NIGHT CLUBS

For those that fancy a late night bop, there are four places to go once the other bars are shut. All of them are open until 4 am.

La Kalico 1850
Situated bang in the middle of 1850, the Kalico has got it all. By day it is a popular piste-side lunchtime venue serving Pizzas, burgers and a variety of pasta dishes. By night it is a Rhumerie, a Bar, and a heaving dancing venue, popular with a younger crowd as the prices are cheaper.

La Grange 1850
Following a change of management last season, this renowned night-spot has been completely refurbished this season. Situated in the Rue Park City, it has added a Moroccan restaurant to its list of talents, so you can eat, drink and be merry.

Les Caves 1850
Situated near the entrance to the resort, Les Caves is popular with locals, tourists and celebrities alike. Probably not the place for those on a tight budget.

La Godille 1650
This is a well needed alternative to the range of late night venues outside 1850. The only other place open till 4am is the New Space. It plays a range of music, which can tend towards the euro-pop, but then again, this is France.
